The sack race is one of the most volatile markets in football. That is especially true in the Premier League. The average tenure of a Premier League manager has decreased dramatically over the past 20 years. Gone are the days of Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger at Man United and Arsenal.

Those legends built and rebuilt their football empires, and owners gave them the time to do so. Nowadays, owners seem to get an itchy trigger finger after just a handful of bad results. Premier League managers are more expendable than ever, and football fans love betting on who will be sacked next.

With the latest international break upon us, now is a good time to assess the odds of the sack race. Let’s look at the bookies’ favourites to be the next EPL manager to lose their job.

Current Premier League Sack Race Odds

As mentioned earlier, this market is volatile. Just a few bets on a manager’s sacking can see bookies cut the odds drastically. There is a lot of scope for inside information, and rumours abound about which PL boss will be sacked next. It is hard for bookies to have an edge over punters in a market like this. Consequently, odds can shift quickly, and information can rapidly go out of date.

That said, the international break does provide a relatively settled period in terms of this market. These are the odds right now:

  • Ange Postecoglou, Nottingham Forest, 4/9
  • Ruben Amorim, Manchester United, 10/3
  • Daniel Farke, Leeds United, 16/1
  • Enzo Maresca, Chelsea, 20/1
  • Vitor Pereira, Wolves, 20/1
  • Unai Emery, Aston Villa, 20/1

Can Ange Really be in Trouble Already?

Incredibly, Postecoglou has been in charge at Forest for just seven games, and yet there is already talk of him being sacked. Some Forest fans were calling for the board to dismiss him just four or five games into the job! The owners appointed him on 9th September 2025, and less than a month later, the bookmakers made him the 4/9 favourite to be the next manager to leave his job.

It is genuinely staggering that so many people in football think this is normal. The former Spurs man has been in charge for just a few weeks. But based on the odds, he has a 70% chance of being sacked next. Of course, the market we are examining is primarily concerned with which Premier League manager will leave their job next. It does not consider the timeframe, so there is a chance that Ange may be the next person to leave, but that it doesn’t happen for a few more weeks or even months yet.

That said, many people believe the Australian might not be in charge when the Premier League returns. Forest have lost five and drawn two of the seven games which Postecoglou has managed. Some believe he could have managed the two-time European champions for the last time. However, others reckon he has between one and three games to save himself.

Forest Owner Unlikely to be Patient

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is not renowned for his considered, logical behaviour. He is a controversial figure in many ways and a whole host of scandals surround him. Compared to some of those, sacking a manager after just seven games would be nothing. Moreover, Marinakis is already on his 11th manager since buying the club in 2017!

That includes caretaker bosses, but even so, it is clear that Marinakis is not shy about pulling the trigger. Nuno Espirito Santo led Forest into Europe, but, after 21 months at the helm, he was sacked without mercy just three games into the current campaign.

Many fans did not like Nuno’s football though. Ange was supposed to bring about a rapid football revolution from that style of play. However, Forest supporters did rather like winning the odd game of football, and the former Celtic manager hasn’t managed that so far.

One big issue that he faces is that he cannot claim to have been unlucky. The stats for his four Premier League games in charge are alarming. They have scored just once, the worst record in the PL in this time. Moreover, their xG is a meagre 3.21 for those games, ranking them 18th. They have conceded seven times, while opponents have created xG of almost eight goals against them, again the worst in the Premier League. Indeed, they rank last for shot conversion and errors leading to goals, and 19th out of 20 for shots on target faced.

Forest host Chelsea, then Porto after the international break. Assuming Ange survives until then, he will surely need to win one of those. After that, his side face a tough trip to Bournemouth and then a clash at home against Man United. Will Ange and Amorim both be in charge for that?

If Not Postecoglou, Then Who?

Second-guessing Marinakis is almost certainly unwise. However, if we assume that he is going to be surprisingly patient with Ange, or that the Forest boss will oversee a big upturn in results after the international break, who will be the next EPL boss sacked?

Part of the reason that Postecoglou is so short in the betting is because of other clubs’ results. Amorim has been under pressure for a long time. But United beat Sunderland. Emery is among the bookies’ favourites to be the next PL manager sacked, but Villa also won at the weekend. Moreover, Chelsea beat Liverpool, easing the pressure on Maresca. Although Leeds lost to Spurs, they played well and sit 15th.

Wolves sit at rock bottom of the table and are winless in seven games. But boss Pereira recently signed a new contract. Even so, 20/1 looks worth a small bet in our opinion. However, we feel the best value right now is Burnley’s Scott Parker. The bookies make him a 25/1 shot to lose his job next in the EPL.

Burnley are currently 18th. However, their expected points has them 20th. They are not showing any real signs of adapting to life in the Premier League. They host Leeds after the international break, then travel to Wolves. If they lose both of those, 25/1 might just look like incredible value!
