Liverpool play Sunderland at Anfield in round 14 of the English Premier League (EPL) campaign. The Reds face a stern test against a confident Sunderland team.
Kick-off is scheduled for 8:15 pm on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025. Stuart Attwell is the match referee.
Liverpool vs Sunderland Prediction
I cannot back Liverpool to win at just 1.36, especially considering their recent form. Although Sunderland are stronger at home, they have shown the ability to pick up away points. So, I fancy this match to finish a draw (5.25 at Ladbrokes).
The low-scoring H2H stats and Sunderland’s solid defensive record mean I pick under 2.5 goals (2.37 at Betfred), especially considering the 1.57 odds (Bet365) for over 2.5 goals.
I prefer both teams to score “no” at 1.95 (Bet365) to BTTS “yes” (1.85 at Betway). Sunderland have scored in just three of six EPL away games. They could struggle to score on the road yet again.
Liverpool Analysis
Excellent early-season results have faded into a nightmare spell for Liverpool, who are currently eighth in the Premiership table with 21 points (W7 D0 L6). Head coach Arne Slot is under huge pressure, as his side trails Arsenal by nine points.
The Reds claimed a much-needed 2-0 victory at West Ham on Sunday. Before the trip to east London, Liverpool had lost nine of their last 12 games, including three defeats in a row. A chastening 4-1 home defeat to PSV came after losing 3-0 to both Nottingham Forest and Man City.
Despite those recent struggles, Liverpool have a superior home record (W4 D0 L2) compared to their away results (W3 D0 L4). So, they will be confident of beating Sunderland.
Liverpool are still without the injured Jeremie Frimpong (hamstring), Stefan Bajcetic (hamstring), and Conor Bradley (muscle injury). Giovanni Leoni’s ACL injury will sideline him for the whole season. But Liverpool have no suspended players.

Player in Focus
Cody Gakpo has claimed four goals and three assists in the EPL. The Dutch forward showed his scoring instincts with the second goal at West Ham. So, check out Gakpo to score first (7.50 at Bet365).
Sunderland Analysis
Three wins in five matches leave Sunderland sixth-placed in the EPL standings (W6 D4 L3) with 22 points. Unbeaten in seven home games (W4 D3), the Black Cats have conceded just 13 goals, the league’s sixth-best defensive record.
Saturday’s pulsating 3-2 home victory over Bournemouth saw Sunderland overturn a 2-goal deficit. This win ended their three-match winless run. In matchweek 12, Sunderland lost 1-0 at Fulham and had to settle for home draws against Arsenal (2-2) and Everton (1-1).
However, Sunderland’s away record is mixed (W2 D1 L3). Those six games featured only nine goals, the lowest of any EPL team’s away matches. Yet, key wins at Chelsea and Nottingham Forest showed off their high pressing and quick counters.
Sunderland coach Regis Le Bris switches between a 4-2-3-1 or 5-4-1 formation, depending on the opposition. Given Saturday’s early lapses against Bournemouth, he may revert to five defenders at Anfield.
Aji Alese (shoulder) and Habib Diarra (groin) are the main injury worries for Le Bris. Fortunately, he has no suspensions in the squad.

Player in Focus
Wilson Isidor has struck four goals in the opening 13 EPL games. You can get odds of 1.90 (Bet365) for Isidor over 0.5 shots on target. Alternatively, Isidor to score anytime is 4.50 at Betfred.

Liverpool vs Sunderland Head to Head
These two teams last met almost nine years ago, due to Sunderland’s extended Premiership absence.
Liverpool won six of the previous ten H2H matches; there were four draws, but Sunderland failed to record a single victory.
The last five games produced three Liverpool wins and two draws. These H2H battles had few goals: under 2.5 goals three times, and both teams scored just twice.
