Matchweek 17 of the 2025-26 English Premier League (EPL) season brings two massive clubs together, as Tottenham welcome Liverpool to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Recent wobbles have piled the pressure on these big clubs, as they struggle in the league. Yet, Liverpool have their sights on a top four position and will be chasing an important away win.
The big match kick-off is timed for 5:30 pm on Saturday, 20th December 2025. John Brooks is the match referee.
Match Prediction
First up, I predict Liverpool to win this match. I fancy Liverpool to jump on Tottenham’s poor home form and grab three points. The Reds seem to have regained their confidence and can shatter Spurs’ fragile backline.
I think Liverpool can win by two clear goals. So, I go for Liverpool -1 handicap (6.25 at Bet365) based on them scoring ten times in the last two wins over Spurs.
I’ll also take over 3.5 goals , given that 60% of the ten latest H2Hs have had 3+ goals.
Tottenham Latest News & Analysis
Tottenham are in eleventh place in the league (W6 D4 L6) on 22 points, four points behind Liverpool. Spurs have managed 25 goals for and 21 against in 16 EPL games.
Last Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest means Spurs have three defeats in five league outings, or four in their last seven. This erratic run for Thomas Frank’s men included defeats to London rivals Arsenal (4-1) and Fulham (2-1).
Tottenham have picked up just eight points at home (W2 D2 L4). Away from home it’s a different story, as a W4 D2 L2 record shows. Until Thomas Frank solves that puzzle, his side could struggle this Saturday.
Spurs are missing Pape Matar Sarr due to African Cup of Nations (AFCON) duty. James Maddison’s ACL injury rules him out for the entire campaign. There are also injuries to Yves Bissouma (ankle), Dejan Kulusevski (knee), Radu Dragusin (knee), Dominic Solanke (ankle), Kota Takai (foot), and Destiny Udogie (hamstring).
No suspensions currently affect the Tottenham first-team squad.

Player in Focus
Xavi Simons found the net in recent matches against Brentford and Slavia Prague. The silky playmaker can follow up that form with 1+ shot on target (2.20 at Betway).
Liverpool Latest News & Analysis
The Reds (W8 D2 L6) have climbed to seventh place in the EPL standings on 26 points. A seesaw campaign includes 26 goals scored and 24 against.
Since losing 4-1 at home to PSV on 26th November, Liverpool have three wins from five in all competitions. Two successive wins included EPL round 16’s 2-0 home win over Brighton, plus a 1-0 triumph at Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League.
Arne Slot has plenty of options, despite Mo Salah’s absence due to the AFCON tournament. Liverpool will be confident of adding to Tottenham’s shaky home record before hosting Wolves and Leeds in the upcoming festive fixtures.
Liverpool’s injury problems include Cody Gakpo (knock), Stefan Bajcetic (hamstring), Wataru Endo (ankle), and Joe Gomez (muscle injury). The versatile Dominik Szoboszlai is doubtful with an ankle knock.
Conor Bradley returns from a one-game ban, so there are no suspensions in Liverpool’s squad.

Player in Focus
Florian Wirtz has made a slow start to his Liverpool career. Can he score his first Liverpool goal this weekend? Wirtz to score is 4.0 with Bet365.
