The return of Premier League football is just one week away, but there is the little matter of one more international matchweek to contend with first. England, Spain, and Scotland all claimed important victories last time out, but will they be able to maintain their impressive form?

Ahead of England’s 7-0 thrashing of Croatia on Saturday, I predicted three winners and one narrow loser. England to win, over 2.5 goals, and Jude Bellingham to score or assist all came in thanks to the Three Lions’ rampant form in front of goal. Unfortunately, Mateo Kovacic missed an absolute sitter to bring the BTTS bet home for four out of four predictions, but not a bad day at the office.

Tuesday 6 October

  • England v Czechia
  • Croatia v Spain
  • Scotland v Slovenia

England vs Czechia

England vs Czechia Tuesday

There are no two ways about it, England have been in superb form during this international break. A 2-0 away win over Czechia, a 7-0 win in Croatia, and a narrow 3-2 defeat to the World Champions Spain make for pretty promising reading for Thomas Tuchel. However, it should be said that Czechia will view their own defeat as a bit of an anomaly, considering Pavel Sulc was sent off in the first 25 minutes. After that, the result was a formality.

That being said, Czechia’s form so far this month indicates that we will still see an England win, albeit a narrow one. The central European nation lost 2-1 at home to Croatia – the team England just put seven goals past – and 3-1 to Spain, where they earned yet another red card. That makes a yellow/red card bet pretty tempting, but I think it’s a trap.

England will want to round off the international break with a statement win to keep them in contention for the top spot, but there may be some fatigue after a long three weeks of fixtures. Tottenham legend Harry Kane could also come up against the in-form Spurs keeper Antonin Kinsky, who made an impressive seven saves against Spain.

I’m thinking a 2-0 win could be a good bet here. It all depends on whether Tuchel makes changes or not in his final game of the month.

Croatia vs Spain

Croatia vs Spain Tuesday

It has been an embarrassing week for Croatia. Slavan Bilic rested six players against Spain and lost 4-1 to the World Cup winners, all to compete with England for second place in Group C. The only problem was that Croatia then went on to lose the game against the Three Lions by an even bigger margin. At least they picked up a win over Czechia at the start of the break, but second place feels a long way off now. To make matters worse, Spain now have the opportunity to compound the misery for Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic, and co.

It’s fair to say the World Champs have looked worthy of their title over the past three weeks. They have scored at least three goals in all three games, including a tough away fixture in England. When Spain hosted Croatia last week, it finished 4-1, with Lamine Yamal helping himself to a brace on what could be his lap of honour in the Ballon d’Or race.

Scotland vs Slovenia

Scotland vs Slovenia Tuesday

Scotland have been up and down so far in their 2026 Nations League campaign. A 0-0 draw away to Slovenia seemed solid, but was followed up with a 3-0 home defeat to Switzerland after Jack Hendry was shown red within 11 minutes. The Tartan Army bounced back well though, recording a 2-0 win over North Macedonia in what was Andy Robertson’s 100th Scotland cap. Unfortunately, Scott McKenna was also sent off in the dying minutes, though.

Slovenia have followed an almost identical run of fixtures since the 0-0 draw with Scotland two weeks ago, losing to Switzerland and beating North Macedonia 2-0. The two countries seem pretty evenly matched, and Scotland may find it tough to score past the legendary Jan Oblak.
