In a break from Premier League (PL) action this weekend, attention turns to the FA Cup. The pick of the third round ties features Tottenham versus Aston Villa.

Villa beat Tottenham in the FA Cup fifth round last season, so Spurs want revenge on home turf. The winner will move on to the last 16 and one step closer to a dream final at Wembley.

Craig Pawson is the match referee at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This match is scheduled for a 5:45 pm kick-off on Saturday, 10th January 2026.

Match Prediction

Based on Tottenham’s poor home results in 2025-26 and Aston Villa’s H2H record against Spurs, I go for Aston Villa to win.

Besides the match result, Tottenham versus Aston Villa tends to produce plenty of goals. So, I predict over 2.5 goals.

Tottenham Latest News & Analysis

Tottenham have just one win in six games and sit in 14th place in the PL. Before Wednesday’s 3-2 injury-time defeat at Bournemouth, they went five consecutive games without scoring 2+ goals. Draws against Sunderland (1-1) and at Brentford (0-0) followed a much-needed 1-0 win at Crystal Palace. Yet, mid-December 2025 defeats to Liverpool (2-1) and Nottingham Forest (3-0) highlighted a worrying run.

The FA Cup is now Spurs’ only realistic chance of silverware. The competition could be a welcome distraction from their poor league form (W7 D6 L8). Remarkably, Tottenham have the PL’s second-best away record (W5 D3 L3) but are 17th of 20 at home (W2 D3 L5). Another home defeat this Saturday would pile more pressure on boss Thomas Frank.

James Maddison’s cruciate ligament injury keeps him out until summer 2026. Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma are at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON). Injuries also affect Mohammed Kudus (muscular injury), Destiny Udogie (hamstring), Dejan Kulusevski (knee), and Dominic Solanke (ankle). Lucas Bergvall picked up a thigh injury at Bournemouth. But no first-team players are suspended.

Richarlison scored recent goals against Liverpool and Brentford. The maverick frontman is Tottenham’s main danger with eight goals this season. Richarlison is 2.87 (Coral) to score a goal.

Aston Villa Latest News & Analysis

With three wins from their last five games, Aston Villa are full of confidence. They face Tottenham after drawing 0-0 away at Crystal Palace in midweek. Gameweek 20 saw Villa get back on track with a 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest. A 30th December 4-1 defeat at Arsenal had ended their 11-game winning run.

The Villans are buzzing going into the second half of the season. Unai Emery has done an excellent job managing league and European fixtures with a relatively small squad.

After last season’s 3-0 FA Cup semi-final defeat to eventual winners Crystal Palace, Villa will be confident of going all the way this year.

But Villa’s squad is stretched. Evann Guessand is playing for the Ivory Coast at AFCON. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez sustained a calf injury at Crystal Palace. The West Midlands team also have injuries to Ross Barkley (knee), Amadou Onana (hamstring), Pau Torres (calf), and Tyrone Mings (hamstring). But none of the squad are suspended.

Ollie Watkins has a knack for scoring important goals. He came off the bench to seal Villa’s recent 2-1 win at Chelsea. You can back Watkins to score first at 6.50 (Bet365) or Watkins to score anytime (2.80 at Ladbrokes).
