The Premier League’s only Boxing Day fixture sees Man United host Newcastle. We now enter round 18, almost halfway through the top-flight campaign.

Man United need to bounce back from defeat at Aston Villa, while Newcastle want to put behind them their second-half collapse against Chelsea last week.

Anthony Taylor is the main match referee at Old Trafford, with kick-off at 8:00 pm on Friday, 26th December 2025.

Man United vs Newcastle Prediction

Compared to last season’s awful form, Man United are progressing well in 2025-26. So, I predict the Red Devils will gain revenge for a 2-0 defeat in last season’s H2H fixture. So, I’ll back Man United to win the match.

Goals look likely at Old Trafford, so I predict over 2.5 goals. 12 of Man United’s 17 PL games this term featured 3+ goals. They scored four against Bournemouth and Brighton at home. Newcastle have just one clean sheet in their last 11 PL games.

Man United Analysis

After 17 Premiership matches, Man United have 26 points and sit seventh in the PL standings. Ruben Amorim’s side have scored 31 times and conceded 28 but haven’t won at Old Trafford since 25th October against Brighton.

Last Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa was United’s second game without a win but just their second defeat in ten matches. The previous Monday saw a sizzling 4-4 draw at home to Bournemouth, where they lost the lead three times. Their five PL games before that included wins over Wolves (4-1) and Crystal Palace (2-1), two draws, and a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Everton in round 12.

United are determined to bring festive cheer to the Old Trafford faithful, despite missing three players on African Cup of Nations duty: Bryan Mbeumo, Noussair Mazraoui, and Amad Diallo.

Defenders Matthijs de Ligt (back) and Harry Maguire (thigh) are struggling to be fit. Bruno Fernandes (hamstring) and Kobbie Mainoo (calf) are both out for the next few weeks.

Casemiro is available after his one-game suspension.

Player in Focus

Matheus Cunha is looking dangerous in a number ten role for United. He has only three goals in 14 league appearances. But the Brazilian has now scored in back-to-back matches. You can get odds of 2.75 (Bet365) for Cunha to score a goal.

Newcastle Analysis

23 points from 17 matches puts Newcastle eleventh in the Premier League table (W6 D5 L6). They are coming off a 2-2 draw at home to Chelsea, after leading 2-0 at half-time. That result highlighted the Toon’s attacking talent and fragile confidence this season.

The Magpies’ form shows two wins in five league games, scoring ten (average two per game) and conceding seven (average 1.4). They’re keen to improve on one win in eight PL away games (W1 D3 L4) before a 30th December trip to Burnley.

Yoane Wissa’s recent return from injury bolsters the attack. But an injury-hit squad has several defensive injuries: Dan Burn (ribs), Valentino Livramento (knee), Sven Botman (lower back), Kieran Trippier (hamstring), and Emil Krafth (knee). Danish forward William Osula (ankle) is ruled out over the festive period.

Newcastle have no suspended players for the visit to Manchester.

Player in Focus

Nick Woltemade continued his bright start to life on Tyneside with two first-half strikes against Chelsea. He’s Newcastle’s top Premier League marksman with seven goals. You can back Woltemade to score at 2.50.

United to gain sweet revenge

Man United will turn around their erratic form by sweeping aside an injury-weakened Newcastle. This Boxing Day clash should feature plenty of attacking flair and goals.
