Grading Tottenham’s 10 Summer Signings on Value, Skill, and Potential

Tottenham Hotspur shelled out almost £400m on new players this summer, falling just shy of the all-time summer record, which now stands at £458m. While big names like Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario, and Djed Spence departed N17, Roberto De Zerbi was backed in a big way, with Spurs even signing three of his ‘footballing sons’: Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali, and Mykhailo Mudryk. But how would we grade each of Tottenham’s 10 summer signings?

Andy Robertson

De Zerbi was keen to add some more experience and leadership to his ranks, and it doesn’t come much better than a Premier League/Champions League-winning defender. At 32-years of age, Robertson isn’t the player he once was at Liverpool, nor will he get any better, but you can’t argue with a free transfer.

Marcos Senesi

It still shocks us that Tottenham managed to pull off a free transfer for Marcos Senesi after his monster season for Bournemouth. Especially since he looks to be nothing more than a squad rotation back-up to Micky Van de Ven. There aren’t many better third-choice centre-backs in the Prem than this man.

Martin Dubravka

Signing a second-choice goalkeeper is never the most exciting piece of business, but Dubravka brings leadership and extensive Premier League experience. It also gives Antonin Kinsky the chance to prove himself in the number one shirt with Spurs.

Jan Paul van Hecke

£52m is a lot to pay for a defender in the final year of his contract, but De Zerbi was determined to replace Cristian Romero with his ‘son’. The Dutchman is already producing an average of 22 line-breaking passes per game for Spurs, showcasing the kind of creativity he showed under De Zerbi at Brighton.

Mateus Fernandes

Tottenham Hotspur outbidding and outmuscling Manchester United for their top midfielder target. Can you imagine saying that 10 years ago? It’s fair to say that Fernandes is the signing the majority of Spurs fans are most excited about this season, even at such a lofty £85m price tag after his back-to-back relegations with West Ham and Southampton.

Sandro Tonali

Is he a £100m player? Few would argue that he is. But De Zerbi has wanted to work with Tonali for almost a decade due to their shared link with Brescia in Italy. Tonali has started slowly in a Spurs shirt, and the price tag appears to be weighing heavily, but if he can get back to his 2024 Newcastle levels, Tottenham will look back on the expenditure fondly.

Savio

Arguably the deal that raised most eyebrows this summer. £85m for a player who scored four goals in 36 games last season?! That being said, Savio did lay on 10 Premier League assists in 29 games back in 24/25, and Spurs are desperate for some of that electric creativity.

Omar Marmoush

If Savio was an overpay, then Marmoush was a bargain. Remember, this is the guy who scored 15 and assisted 10 in just 17 Bundesliga games in 2024/25. It seems harsh to judge him on a lower output at City when he largely played second fiddle to Erling Haaland.

Tosin Adarabioyo

This was a strange deal, to say the least, likely triggered by Kevin Danso’s latest request to leave Spurs. Tosin rarely covered himself in glory for Chelsea, but he at least fills one of the homegrown slots for Tottenham.

Mykhailo Mudryk

De Zerbi once tipped him to win the Ballon d’Or. Unfortunately, Mudryk was then suspended from football for four years after the FA charged him with a doping offence. The suspension was reduced to two years on appeal, and the Ukrainian now has a chance to rebuild his career on loan in Lilywhite.
